The Bowery becomes a nexus of shattered dreams when a merchant has 72 hours to pay his rent. Facing extinction, his ramshackle tent of antiquities lures a troop of misfits, freaks and renegades who form tableaux full of carnival pageantry, white lies and victimless crime in a fleeting glimpse of Downtown New York.
Directed by: Klaus Schneyder
It was in the late 70s that a youth culture evolved in the poorer parts of New York which combined several disciplines under the name of Hip Hop. Apart from the four classic elements of Graffiti writing, DJing, Breakdancing, and Rapping, the musical side of this culture was enhanced by a fifth element called 'Beatboxing'.
From the hardship of poverty and the lack of instruments, a pioneer was inspired to imitate drum rhythms with his mouth - his brilliance creating the term 'Human Beatbox'.
The documentary integrally covers a variety of musical technical abilities. Beatboxing has become a multilingual and diverse instrument applied in all genres of music. The documentary shows how this modern style of music has spread and how it continues to enrich the entertainment world.
American Juggalo is a look at the often mocked and misunderstood subculture of Juggalos, hardcore Insane Clown Posse fans who meet once a year for four days at The Gathering of the Juggalos.
Director Sean Dunne went to The 2011 Gathering of the Juggalos and let the Juggalos speak their minds.
Grazhdanskaya Oborona (Civil Defense): Electric Orange Concert Film (dir. A. Smirnov 2009). This is an extremely rare opportunity to see a full-length concert film featuring perhaps the most important band ever to come out of Russian rock history. The film includes concert footage from a November 19, 2006 sold-out show filmed in Moscow. The band include Paul Peretolchina - drums; Alexander Chesnakov - guitar, backing vocals; Egor Letov - voice, guitar; Nataliya Chumakova - bass.
Yegor Letov led the ever-evolving underground Siberian cult punk rock band, Grazhdanskaya Oborona (Civil Defense), from 1985 until his untimely death in February 2008. In that time, he released at least 50 unique albums of original material and just as many recordings under different guises and side-projects. Letov's songs were fueled with bitterly passionate protest lyrics that are now considered well-regarded poetry. Letov and GrOb (Russian for, 'coffin') enjoyed both a huge underground following throughout the former USSR and mainstream success well in to modern post-Soviet Russia. Letov's legacy has spread far and wide to the West with his band's records sought-after throughout the globe. In many circles, he is as revered and as important as John Lydon (Sex Pistols/Public Image) and Mark E. Smith (The Fall) and Arthur Lee (Love) and Velvet Underground-era Lou Reed. It should be mentioned that all records produced prior to 1991 were recorded and released in secret and distributed through black market channels. Most were released on reel to reel tape and later, cassette. You can still see his lyrics scrawled on walls in the poorest slums of Russia. His wife and bass player, Natalya Chumakova continues to uphold his enduring legacy.
The widow of the artist and GrOb bass player, Natalya Chumakova, will present the film. This program is in Russian.

“The Dolls of Lisbon” is New York City’s Antagonist Art Movement’s latest exploit inspired by the Zapatista Dolls of Mexico, a souvenir that travelled the world symbolizing a little known rebellion. The Antagonists take aim at the legacy of Andy Warhol’s over commercialization and commodification of art. Like the Zapatista Movement our Dolls are a symbol of resistance, here to wage war against mass production and to give a voice to those who walk a unique and sometimes arduous path.
This film re-examines the notion of the struggling artist, and initiates a cultural exchange among artists from The United States, Ecuador, Portugal, and fellow Antagonist Artists across Europe.
Driven by a vital underground soundtrack, Super 8mm film and stop motion animation, “The Dolls of Lisbon” explores art and all its existential struggles on and off the canvas.
