The legendary DIY Anarcho-Punk band ZOUNDS (Shakespearian English for 'God's Wounds") first came in to being in the late 1970s Reading, England and became underground cult favorites throughout the earlier part of the following decade. The band were deeply affiliated with London’s burgeoning Anarcho/DIY squatter scene and toured throughout Europe with the likes of Crass, The Birthday Party etc. Led by singer/bassist Steve Lake, the band’s keenly observational socio-political lyrics instantly set them apart from even their most inspired peers. The band’s 1980 debut 7’’ 45 on Crass records – “Can’t Cheat Karma” b/w “War/Subvert” remains an all-time classic from the early Anarcho-punk era.
The band play a rare NYC show this Sat. 10/15/11 @ Knitting Factory (EARLY MATINEE! w/1pm doors), $10; All Ages w/Skelptarsis (NY) + Witch Hunt (PA) (orig. 3-piece line-up performing 1st LP material!)
